PACTT is an educational, residential, and vocational program for students with autism. With the mission to assist individuals with autism in becoming as independent as possible, PACTT overall as an organization offers education through the PACTT Learning Center, transition and adult vocational programs to help prepare students for job opportunities, as well as a residential program that has two group homes for children and adults who are a part of the PACTT organization.

PACTT Learning Center is the educational program which functions similar to a school. However, PACTT Learning Center is unlike public schools and or private schools for multiple reasons.
PACTT only serves students with autism, which means this school is not open to the public. Also, this form of special education is a type that does not take on the definition of 'inclusive education' in which special education students are integrated with general education classrooms as well as sped classrooms. This school opened in response to public schools and surrounding schools in Rogers Park not having adequate special education resources. Thus, PACTT Learning Center is a school dedicated to providing these resources for students. |
Nonpublic/Therapeutic/Special Day Schools
PACTT is considered a nonpublic special day school in Chicago. Nonpublic special education programs are educational as well as therapeutic services for students while sometimes including residential programs. Placement into these schools (such as PACTT) occurs after the IEP team and district determines that a "no less restrictive" environment suits the student's needs. |
